Maureen Purvis has painted her “Pencil Yam Dreaming” piece. The background has been primed using black acrylic paint. The fine dotting is representative of her country, and of the seeds being scattered right across her lands by the winds, birds and animals. The women have to know when and where to find these yams, and have to use their digging sticks to dig them out of the sandy ground. Judy is the eldest daughter of the late Greeny Purvis Petyarre, and Kathleen Kemarre.
