Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming – Kathleen Purvis Petyarre

This is Kathleen’s favourite piece to paint, and a widely sort after collection piece.

Painted on a black background, with yellow and white dotting. She has marked out her country into four sections.

These dots represent the seed dreaming for her country. The large area running from the centre of the work to the outside edge in a “D” shape, is a soakage area. This area has been dotted in the natural brown and yellow ochres and red colours. A secondary bush tucker area has also been shown using dotting and showing three white dotted pathways. The half-moon area at the top of the soakage- and central to the work is an initiation area for the men and women.

Kathleen has been listed in the top 50 most collectable Australian artists.

This is a lovely piece of work from Kathleen.
