Description

Ester Haywood Petyarre has painted a beautiful piece of work. She has used sweeping shades of red and white- onto black background to portray her bush medicine leaf dreaming. The leaves of the Kurrajong bush are picked at various stages, and used for the healing of cut, bites, stings, burns, rashes, and colds etc. The leaves may be boiled, to extract the oils, and then mixed with wallaby fat or emu fat. This would be used to treat cuts and grazes. Dried leaves would be crushed and mixed with wallaby or emu fat for use later on. This would be rubbed onto the chest or back for relief from colds and flu. Her work is always amazing, with soft flowing lines, and great colour combinations.
